Keely Berry - 2025 Albany Junior Sportsperson of the Year

The Great Southern Academy of Sport is incredibly proud to celebrate scholarship athlete Keely Berry, who has been named the Retravision Albany Junior Sportsperson of the Year at the City of Albany Sports Awards.

The annual awards night was a fantastic celebration of sporting achievement across our region, with Australian athletics star Peter Bol attending as guest speaker and sharing his journey with the local sporting community.

For GSAS, the night was a huge reflection of the incredible talent coming through our program, with an outstanding 14 of the 18 junior nominees connected to the academy. To have that level of representation across the region’s premier sporting awards is something we are enormously proud of.

Even more impressively, four junior finalists being GSAS athletes:

  • Keely Berry (Netball)

  • Mason Watkins (Athletics)

  • Tatum Whalley (Basketball)

  • Zoe Bascombe (Athletics)

To then see Keely take home the top honour was a special moment.

Keely’s past 12 months have been nothing short of exceptional.

A true dual-sport athlete, Keely has continued to excel at an elite level in both netball and basketball. Her standout achievements include selection in both state basketball and state netball teams, a remarkable accomplishment that reflects not only her talent, but her versatility, commitment, and competitive drive. Adding to that, Keely was named Most Valuable Player in the WA Under 17 State Netball Team, further cementing her place among the state’s top emerging athletes.

The biggest milestone of all came with her selection in the Australian Under 17 National Squad, a massive achievement and one that places her firmly among the country’s most promising young netballers.

Keely represents exactly what regional high-performance sport is about: talent, discipline, humility, and a willingness to do the work.

To see a Great Southern athlete achieving on the national stage while remaining connected to her regional roots is incredibly exciting, and we have no doubt this is only the beginning.

Congratulations also to all nominees, finalists, and award winners from the evening, and thank you to the City of Albany for continuing to celebrate and recognise sporting excellence in our region.

A special congratulations once again to Keely on a hugely deserved honour.
